Streamline the Bathroom

This week, we are going to be focusing on deep cleaning the bathroom. If you have more than one bathroom, I’d recommend cleaning the bathroom you use most often. Or the one that has the most clutter.

To get started, I want you to focus on one specific task: Streamlining your stuff!

Streamlining and eliminating unnecessary items from your house will be a major focus this year, so be prepared to learn how to PURGE!

For now, let’s streamline a few things in the bathroom.

Deep Clean the Bathroom.

Step 1 – Streamline

Like when we clean, I want you to set your timer for 5-15 minutes. If you lean more towards being a minimalist, stick to 5 minutes. If you think everything should be saved because “you might need it one day,” work for 15 minutes.

After you set your timer, do the following:

  • Open each drawer one at a time
  • Open each cabinet one at a time
  • Open each closet one at a time

Ask yourself the following question about each item you see.

Do I use this item daily, weekly, or even monthly?

If so, then keep it.

If not, get rid of it.

Most importantly, be honest with yourself! If you have 10 bottles of nail polish but only use 2 colors, get rid of the other 8 bottles. If you have half-empty bottles of eye cream or samples of beauty care products you’ve never used, get rid of them. If you have 25 bath towels but only use 6, get rid of the extra.

The purpose of this exercise isn’t to be wasteful. Quite the contrary! Those items are being wasted if they’re taking up valuable space in your bathroom and never being used.

The purpose of this exercise IS to be deliberate about the items we let stay in our home.

If we streamline the number of unused items in our house, we have more space for the items we love. We have more space to live. We have more space to organize (and find) the items we use regularly. It’s freeing. And it feels good!

So, give it a try.

Set your time and streamline. Don’t quit until your timer goes off. Then let me know how it goes!
