We try our best to have a steady hand as we lift food in and out of the oven but somehow food always manages to spill or bubble over. That food crusts over on the bottom, burns, and then smokes so much the smoke detector alarm starts to scream. Whatever the reason, it’s a good idea to deep clean the oven.

SET A TIMER
Do you want to spend all day trying to deep clean the oven? You know what to do in order to complete this task and move on. Set your timer and get going!
DEEP CLEAN THE OVEN FIRST OPTION:
Clean the oven with the self-cleaning feature.
I’ve used the self-cleaning feature in the past but it freaked me out every time. The oven door locks, it heats up to a million degrees, and 6 hours later, the oven door unlocks and it’s magically clean!
You can’t leave the house during the 4 long hours it’s cleaning.
SECOND OPTION: Clean the oven with a conventional oven cleaner.
A conventional oven cleaner is actually a pretty pain-free way to clean the oven. In most circumstances, you just spray, let it soak for a few minutes and wipe away.
Keep in mind: most conventional oven cleaners contain a boatload of chemicals.
THIRD OPTION: Clean the oven with a DIY oven cleaner.
I’ve used this baking soda/vinegar mixture to clean my ridiculously dirty oven before and it worked pretty well. It doesn’t clean up perfectly. If you clean your oven on a regular basis, then this method should work!
NATURAL OVEN CLEANER
Supplies:
Nylon Pan Scraper
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Dishrag/towel/sponge
Gloves (optional)
Directions:
Use the Nylon Pan Scraper to easily remove dried, baked-on food off the oven floor. Next, sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the oven and liberally on heavily soiled areas. Continue by spraying or drizzling vinegar over the baking soda. Allow this bubbly recipe to work its magic until the bubbling stops. Use the scraper again if needed on stubborn spills and stains. Wipe away debris with towel.
If it’s been two years since you cleaned your oven, repeat.
DEEP CLEAN OVEN RACKS
If your oven racks aren’t overly dirty, it shouldn’t take too long to make them look new again. Just place them in your kitchen sink and clean them using a scrub brush and Bar Keepers Friend.
If your oven racks are completely decorated in baked-on lasagna and you don’t want to take the time to scrub and scour, place a towel in your bathtub, lay the rack on the towel, and squirt a few tablespoons of Dawn Platinum Power Clean. Fill the tub with hot water until the oven racks are completely covered.
Allow soaking for a minimum of 3 minutes. Most of the gooey grime should wipe away with a cloth! Use Bar Keepers Friend to make them look like new!
HINT: All dish soaps are NOT the same. Dawn Platinum Power Clean really does give the power of an overnight soak in 3 minutes.
