You use trash bags. You even splurged and purchased the hands-free trash can. Yet somehow, there’s always a leak or a spill. There’s so much trash stuffed in the can that last night’s food scraps stick to the top of the lid or escape down the side between the bag and the can. Despite the best of efforts, the kitchen trash can eventually stink and becomes very gross and sticky. Unfortunately, that means it’s time to wash the trash can and finally get a clean kitchen trash can that smells fresh!
GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES
• Dish soap
• Garden hose with spray attachment
or
• All-purpose cleaner
• Cleaning cloth
Set a Timer
Time isn’t confining when you choose to confine time to your specifications. Set a timer and make time work FOR you.
DEEP CLEAN THE KITCHEN TRASH CAN
Are you like me? The thought of cleaning trash makes me want to put this off! It’s not as bad as cleaning the outside garbage can…but it’s close!
Here are a few options to make cleaning the kitchen garbage slightly more bearable:
• If you have a small trash can, you can stick it in the dishwasher.
• If the weather permits, take the trash can outside, squirt dish soap in it, and use the sprayer on the garden hose to clean it out. This is my personal favorite since minimal “hand-to-can” contact is involved.
• A similar approach is doable in the bathtub or shower, especially if you have a showerhead sprayer. It will give you a good excuse to scrub the tub afterward!
• The last option is to get some all-purpose cleaner and an old cleaning cloth and just clean it out with your hands.
Whichever option you choose, remember to wash both the interior and exterior of the trash can. Your garbage can will smell better and in turn, your kitchen will smell better, too.
