Remove Shower Soap Scum For Good!
I certainly don’t want a dirty shower to get the best of you, so I want to share with you a few of my favorite methods and tools for cleaning the shower.
When is the best time to clean the shower?
I don’t know about you, but time and time again I’ve found it easiest to clean the shower when I’m already in there. It just makes it easier to clean, rinse, and repeat.
Basically, I just gather a few supplies (mentioned below), spray my cleaner of choice, wait a few minutes, jump in, and start cleaning. Then shower as usual!
What are the best cleaning products to use when cleaning the shower?
Scrubbing Bubbles. Most of the time I try to stock up on cleaning products when they’re on sale. Sometimes I even make my own. Every once in a while, though, I’ll run across a product so great that I’m willing to pay full price. One of those cleaning products is scrubbing bubbles shower cleaner.
It contains chemicals. It’s certainly not “green.” It’s on the more expensive side. But it works great and makes removing soap scum a breeze! Time is money, right?
Vinegar and dish soap. You’ve probably heard that vinegar is a superb cleaning agent and disinfectant. You’ve seen that dish soap “cuts the grease” when cleaning dishes. So mix the two together and you have an inexpensive, shower power cleaner.
Just mix equal parts in a spray bottle, cover the tub or shower, let sit five to ten minutes and then scrub away.
Vinegar and baking soda. This is one of my favorite drain cleaners but it also works wonders on the shower. The fizzing action of the two mixed together works wonders to combat soap scum.
Mix a bit of water with baking soda until it forms a paste. Then use a cloth to scrub it around the walls so the abrasion can break up some of the soap scum. Spray vinegar on the mixture, watch it fizz, and clean those walls. When the fizzing action stops, scrub again and rinse thoroughly.
Which tools are best to use when cleaning the shower?
Different surfaces require different care so make sure to do research before trying any of these. However, for most tub surfaces, the following tools are helpful:
• Shower cleaner (like one of those mentioned above).
• Slightly abrasive dish sponge or a scouring pad.
• A cup used for rinsing areas the shower spray can’t reach.
• Spray bottle full of vinegar and a squeegee used for daily maintenance.
How can I remove soap scum for good?
Once you spend time cleaning your shower, you want to keep it looking new for a while. So here are a few suggestions to lengthen the time between shower cleanings:
1. Clean your shower on a schedule. Be it once a month or every Tuesday, just pick a day and stick with it.
2. Squeegee excess water off the walls after every use. This may seem like extra work, but it will reduce soap scum build up tremendously.
3. Keep a spray bottle of vinegar in your bathroom to spray on the shower walls after every use.
4. Completely dry shower walls as often as possible. If you’re putting a bath towel in the dirty clothes basket, use it to wipe down the walls first.
After all that, are you ready to clean your shower? Give your shower walls a good scrub down and clean the shower curtain. If you have glass shower doors, you may want to try Rain-X for keeping them clean.
